What Does God See?

Yesterday was one of those days that held small victories and big failures. There were a lot of little things that went well and a couple of things that failed big. I am not speaking about events of the day, but I am speaking about living in a way that pleases God and living in a way that disobeys God.

I think we all have days that hold victories and failings. You speak gracefully to a person who is unkind. You make a difficult phone call and God opens a door of restoration in this relationship. The day is moving along well and then a compromise happens. You argue with your spouse, you get frustrated going over the bills and swear or you gossip about a person.

If the day has nine small victories and two big failures, what does God think about your day? When I have a day like that, I think it is a bad day. The couple failings overpower the small victories. Even if the victories were huge, the compromised life that disobeyed the Lord I love bothers me. It probably bothers you in the same way when you stumble.

Is it spiritually unhealthy to not celebrate all the little things? Is it spiritually healthy to feel guilty and upset?

Yes.

We feel guilty because we are guilty. When we mess up we must ‘fess up. When we confess our sins we must embrace the forgiveness that the Lord brings into our lives. We can then celebrate how good and loving and forgiving Jesus is to us. We go out and reciprocate that forgiveness to those around us who have messed up.

What does God see? God sees the good the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. He sees the true motives of your heart. He loves when you turn to Him for His mercy and grace. This might be a good time to tell Him you are sorry, ask for His forgiveness, and thank Him for removing the failings. Then celebrate the purity He brings to your life.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
