Excited that the part for the broken washing machine came early, I began putting the part in late in the evening after a full day. Ninety minutes later I came upstairs and told Connie that it was ready to try washing a load. After a minute, she announced that water was leaking from somewhere inside the washer.

Taking the washer apart again, I discovered that I did not tighten a clamp, which caused the water to run out almost as quickly as it entered.

Jesus said, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much" Luke 16:10

At 11:15am a load of clothes was being washed without any leaks. Your life will leak as bad as our washing machine if you are not attentive to the little things. Jesus can repair the worse leaks with his gentle repairing of your life.

Our washing machine was not working. It did not spin and left water in the drum. I tore into it on Friday and unplugged the filter after watching a video of possible causes.
I was expecting success the next day when my wife put a large blanket in the washer. My satisfaction turned to disappointment when the washer did not spin and either a hundred pounds or a hundred gallons of water remained in the blanket.
After another video view, I was taking the “fixed” washer apart again. The motor that gets the water out of the drum was damaged beyond repair from a bobby pin or some other little thing that made big damage.
James, the brother of Jesus, writes about a small part that causes big damage.
James 3:5
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
Your tongue can be like that bobby pin that wrecks something that was working well.
The motor should arrive in two weeks, and we can turn dirty clothes clean again. The Holy Spirit is always present 24/7 to clean our comments and conversations.

What We Want for Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and most of us know what we want during this time of the year. You and I want something different. More than wanting to have all the gifts bought and even more than thoughts that you might get a useful gift. We want a Christmas that is free of hustle and bustle. We want a Christmas that has a special meaning. A feeling they perhaps had as a child. A Christmas with wonder and joy.
At the Radeke house, my wife plays the highly predictable Hallmark Christmas movies. Early in the movie, you know the jerk she is engaged to is not the one she should marry. She is going to marry the nice guy who is overlooked and underappreciated. We watch similar movies every year because we want the happy ending.
It seems odd that Jesus came to bring peace on earth and joy to the world, but each year it seems to slip away from us. So, we look for ways of capturing that something that we are not certain we can obtain. We simplify, try to slow down, and look for the meaning that gets crowded out.
Mary, before she became the mother of Jesus, embraced the chaos of a virgin pregnancy, which could have cost her life if charged with unfaithfulness. Mary trusted God’s words given by the angel, Gabriel. You and I need to trust God’s words of joy in the midst of whatever chaos is happening.
