When I first began hearing about this virus, I believed that the media was making it much larger than it was. Comparisons to regular flu virus cases and past viruses showed the coronavirus third to the smallest historically.
Aside from my questions, COVID-19 has impacted our nation and our world in ways that has surpassed almost anything else. While considering the number of changes from how we normally do life, my thoughts went to other countries. War torn countries. Countries like Syria.
Pictures of empty streets and shelled buildings from five years of war are gripping. When their pandemic is over, they cannot just return to work, school or anything near normal for months, maybe even years.
We are not certain when lifted restrictions allow us to return to our workplaces, schools, and churches. I am thankful that we have something worthwhile to return to and I believe we will be better people because of this virus.
Matthew 5:1-10 (NIV)
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2 and He began to teach them.
The Beatitudes
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
