I was at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green and noticed salt and road grime on the truck’s windshield. I turned the wipers on and am pulling the same lever towards me to activate the windshield washer solution. Nothing was coming out, so I repeated the pulling several times until I noticed that I was turning the headlight brights on and off. The light turned green and the car that was directly in front of my headlights shining directly into the interior of his car quickly sped off.
I am certain he thinks that I am a jerk and I am not! I just do not remember from car to truck what gadgets to move to make things work properly. The truth is that I was more concerned about the driver thinking highly of me rather than looking accurately at my actions and recognizing that I was unintentionally being a jerk by my mistake.
Paul reminds us in the Bible how we are to think about ourselves.
Romans 12:3
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
You and I are to have our self-identity in Jesus Christ. We are His workmanship created for good works in this world. You are not to devalue your worth; Jesus paid a high price for you. Apart from Jesus we can become prideful.
There are a lot of winter days left and the windshield will need to be cleaned again. I will remember where the washer fluid lever is and remember to not think so highly of myself.
