The pastor spoke negatively about the election outcomes and moved on to the topic of the right to bear arms in opposition to gun control. A person shouted from the back, “We did not come here to hear a message about guns, we want to hear about God!”
Amen for the person in the back!
To the disappointment of many, it did not deter the preacher from his message.
It is a good reminder that people may come on Sunday mornings out of habit, out of guilt, or out of a deep need. The expectation when people come to church should be that they want to sing about, hear about, talk about, pray about, and be touched by God. When that does not happen, people leave the meeting the same way they came.
When we encounter God with a group of people encountering God, it is a wonderful experience and we leave the meeting changed. An encounter with God brings hope, encouragement, conviction, healing, joy and a profound sense of wonder.
Do you hear more about guns and other issues at your church services or do you meet God?
