We become a new person when we begin a relationship with Jesus Christ. The past is past and you now have a new character, a new destiny, and a new life. If you become a Christian later in life some things changed immediately and dramatically. You have a new attitude, a new joy and a new hope. Other areas have changed more slowly and even with difficulty. People change bad habits and establish good habits without Jesus. They quit smoking, begin exercising or learn to play guitar. The time it takes to form a new habit varies from 21 days to eight months. Dr. Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon, found that it took 21 days for a person to adjust to the loss of a limb. The work of the Holy Spirit in your life changes many areas of your life instantly. You quit swearing, using, or hurting. Other areas are in a holy process of change, but more challenging. You may return to past behaviors when facing conflict or stress. The Holy Spirit will bring victory in those stubborn areas that are more deeply ingrained in you. Remember, the past is past and the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! What were immediate changes in your life when you began a relationship with Jesus? What is still in process?
