Snow Emergency

This past Saturday and Sunday our area of the state received 10-14” of snow. Here in Cambridge, Minnesota, we got 10 ½” which was part of the heaviest band of snow across our state. Thankfully, we did not get the 40-50 mph winds that the western portion of our state, creating blizzard conditions. Our temperatures did drop from the 30’s to a high of 18F.

The meteorologists predicted this snow storm well in advance and the state was under a winter snow storm warning. Once the snow is falling or finishing, each community goes into a snow emergency status. This means the city and county snowplows are out. You are to use caution when you see their lights and there is no parking on certain streets while they are removing the snow. Each city has a stategy,: where major routes are cleared first and then lesser traveled roads.

What if you and I had Spiritual Emergency status placed on us by the Holy Spirit when there needs to be emergency cleaning because we have given in to sin and have been dumped on by the devil? (Because I am a fan of winter, there is not intended correlation between the devil and winter snow!) There are times when we neglect our relationship with the Lord and step deep into sin making main roadways of our lives difficult to navigate and it needs clearing.

The Holy Spirit specializes in sin clearing. He convicts us of our sin, giving us that feeling of shame and guilt. The remedy is confession and out comes the big trucks. After a snow emergency, the roads are clear, safe and moving smooth. When the Holy Spirit clears our sin away, our lives are clear, safe and moving smooth.

John 16:8 NLT
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
