Same Sex Marriages Celebrated in Minnesota

Shortly after midnight on August 1, 66 weddings of gay couples were performed at city hall. Minneapolis mayor, RT Rybak officiated 46 of the ceremonies. It is a historic moment in Minnesota resulting from the passing of a bill on May 14th which legalized gay marriages.

Most of the news has shown happy couples who are able to publicly legalize what they had been privately living. Their marriages now open doors of financial opportunities that were not available to them as domestic partners.

There are those who do not consider this historic event positively and those who are strongly opposed to same-sex marriages. The people of Westboro Baptist Church are protesting against our state’s position on same-sex marriage.

I find it very offensive when someone stands up at a rally and shouts how much God hates them. I believe Minnesota and many other states have gotten to this place through a couple key failings. The high rate of divorce among marriage between men and women cause people to search for alternatives. The failings of healthy parent/child relationships have created a distortion of proper male/female relationships that promote homosexual attractions.

Romans 1:24-27
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
