_ I believe our church’s nursery has the greatest toys! There are large, wheeled toys to ride upon, toy building blocks, fun learning toys, and stuffed animal toys. This morning I found a stuffed animal puppy that was placed in the pilot seat of a toy commercial airliner. A puppy piloting the plane. In an imagination world, this works. In the real world, not so well. It was not a puppy piloting the luxury cruise ship, Costa Concordia, but something went terribly wrong. While searches for missing passengers continue, an investigation has begun to determine the cause for it running aground off the coast of Italy. Jesus Christ has been compared to a pilot or captain that will safely navigate us through challenging straits and storms. It works well when Jesus is in the pilots’ seat or driver’s seat and not so well if He is in the passenger or co-pilot’s seat.
I should worry if I was on a passenger piloted by a puppy or a captain that may not have my safety as a high priority. But God is my pilot and I feel safe. Psalm 78:53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid; _
