I know the Bible says:
Matthew 21:22
“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
1 John 5:14-15
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.
Matthew 7:7-8
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
I know from experience that I do not always get what I ask for, even when I have prayed in faith and what I understood to be God’s will. Ever feel like a schizophrenic pray-er?
Fortunately, the disciples must have had similar thoughts. They asked Jesus how they should pray and Jesus’ reply gave a manual for prayer dummies like me.
Matthew 6:9-13
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
10 Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one,
for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.
