Oreo Cookies celebrated it's 100th anniversary yesterday. About.com writes: "In 1912, Nabisco had a new idea for a cookie - two chocolate disks with a creme filling in between." The article continues to let us know how the now famous cookie with over 25 million likes on its Facebook page got it's name.

"Some believe that the cookie's name was taken from the French word for gold, "or" (the main color on early Oreo packages). Others claim the name stemmed from the shape of a hill-shaped test version; thus naming the cookie in Greek for mountain, "oreo." Still others believe the name is a combination of taking the "re" from "cream" and placing it between the two "o"s in "chocolate" - making "o-re-o." And still others believe that the cookie was named Oreo because it was short and easy to pronounce." For the full article, go to:  history1900s.about.com/od/1910s/a/oreohistory.htm

I have heard fascinating stories of how people got their personal names. Some were named after relatives, some were named by an orphanage, and others had their names changed to avoid persecution. How did you get your name? How do you feel about changing your name?

The Bible indicates that you may be in for a name change.
Revelations 2:17 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it."

This was written about the Pergamum church and some suggest only applies to them, but Isaiah 62:2 also says that those who are righteous will be given a new name by God.

God knows your name and speaks it from His heavenly throne. His love is so personal that He wants to nick-name all those who keep Him as their highest treasure.

You might not be certain how Oreo cookies got named, or perhaps how you were named. You can be certain that if you are given a white stone in heaven, take a look to see what your new name is.
