Minnesota became the first state not to make the marriage between one man and one woman a constitutional amendment. Currently, it changes nothing. Potentially, it may change everything. As a person who believes marriage is between a man and a woman, surprisingly, I welcome this defeat. If the amendment had passed, Christians would have folded their arms and been satisfied with the outcome. The gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender(GLBT) community would regroup, re-plan and re-launch another election year. Little dialogue between the two groups would happen. With the amendment defeated, Christians cannot go on as though this issue is resolved. God never establishes something without having a purpose. He does not just randomly choose for humankind to do something or not do something. God always has a reason. God designed marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman because it fulfills His purpose. The Christian community needs to embrace this as much as the GLBT community. A higher commitment to the marriage promises "for better, for worse" will lower the divorce rate, providing a healthy and stable home for the family. Studies that show the high rate of unstable and unhealthy environments in a GLBT family also reveal the social damages caused by divorce between husbands and wives. God has a reason for one man and one woman to remain committed in a marriage relationship. God's ways work and we need not worry about His ways suddenly not working. What is your response to the defeated marriage amendment?
