The demands are getting the crop into storage in good condition before winter. The rewards are the results of tilling, planting, fertilizing and cultivating are now filling storage bins. When I farmed, we picked our corn, ground it and blew it into a silo to feed our dairy cows throughout the year. Sometimes the fall would stay warm and dry. Some years the fall was wet and cold. Still other years, the fall disappeared quickly into an early winter blanket of snow that remained until March.
Jesus compared people who are ready to follow Him as their Lord and Savior are like the harvest.
Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.”
Telling others about Jesus and discipling people to be followers of Him can be very demanding, however there is nothing more rewarding than being used by God to see a life transformed by Jesus Christ.
As you harvest your garden, see the leaves turning color and the farmers combining their fields, think about the spiritual harvest around you. Pray for harvesters and step into the harvest fields with them.
