Isaiah 66:1-2
This is what the Lord says:
“Heaven is My throne,
and the earth is My footstool.
Where is the house you will build for Me?
Where will My resting place be?
2 Has not My hand made all these things,
and so they came into being?”
declares the Lord.
“These are the ones I look on with favor:
those who are humble and contrite in spirit,
and who tremble at My word.
The LORD is speaking this to the people of Israel before the temple is rebuilt and is only anticipated. The temple was important, but not necessary because heaven is the Lord’s home. Paul writes to the Corinthian church that followers of Jesus are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16).
God is so great and beyond us. He cannot be contained in a building and this earth is His footstool. All that we see and know was made by Him. The people that the LORD looks on with favor are those who are humble and highly respect His word. A person who is contrite in spirit is remorseful, regretful and repentant. They are ashamed of ways they lived disrespectfully towards the LORD.
So, God, Who made everything, values your humility, sadness of wrong, and respect for Him. God makes His place or dwelling with you when you love Him more than anything. You are God’s house. Humility, conviction and respect are key character traits to live each day.
Let me know how you live that out in your life:
