It is good weekend for resorts, hotels, cabins and an off weekend for churches. For law enforcement officers it is a busy weekend with traffic and alcohol issues. When I was dairy farming, it was just another day to feed and milk the cows.
Labor Day had a different meaning when it began. It was a celebration of the working people.
From the US Dept of Labor:
The Central Labor Union observed the first Labor Day on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City.
The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.
In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "worker's holiday" on that date. Today, Labor Day is primarily a 3-day weekend.
God has always honored and provided work.
Genesis. 2:2
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work.”
Even from the beginning, God gave people work to do.
Genesis. 2:15 “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
Plant, Prune and Pick!
A good question is God cares about work making widgets, office work, building pallets, caring for animals, caring for children (NOT THE SAME!), teaching students, repairing cars, a politician, working 2nd shift, laying carpet, being a stay-at-home mom, caring for aged, cooking for others, being retired or doing remodeling work?
Does the work I do matter to God?
**He created us in His image and gave us work to do. Eph. 2:10. "For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Because you are His workmanship, whatever your job/career is - your Work does Matter To God!
You say, "I’m just ordinary." If you’re ordinary, thank the Lord. He made more ordinary people than He did anybody else. He didn’t make very many geniuses. He didn’t make very many five talent people. But He made a lot of ordinary people.
An American television network filmed an interview with Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India.
Mother Teresa gave her life to feed starving people and minister to the dying. The person conducting the interview asked Mother Teresa about her feelings of being used of God to minister to the poor. Her little work was known world wide, US Presidents and world leaders knew her and her labor of love.
She answered, "But it is His work, I think God wants to show His greatness by using my Nothingness."
She was asked later, " You feel you have no special qualities?" Mother Teresa replied, "I don’t think so. I don’t claim anything of the work. It is His work and I am like a little pencil in His Hand. That is all. He does the thinking, He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it. The pencil has only to be allowed to be used."
Your work brings restoration to a damaged world.
Repairing cars, teaching students, healing pets, raising families, building pallets, making widgets.
Place yourself in His hands and be used in remarkable ways this week!
