This is a S.M.A.R.T. goal.
It is Specific. I am to be five minutes early to every meeting.
It is Measurable. I know when it is accomplished when I am five minutes early to a meeting.
It is Attainable. Five minutes early is realistic and achievable.
It is Relevant – it is worthwhile.
It is use it is Time-bound – now.
How am I doing?
I have been five minutes late to two meetings so far this year. Failure? Partially. I have also been earlier to more meetings than in the past. Success? Partially.
Some use a strategy of having all their clocks, watch and phone clocks set five minutes early. I prefer to know the correct time and all the other clocks in the world are set correctly, so I will not use that strategy.
My main strategy is doing one less thing.
Yup. One less thing.
My problem is that I am always trying to squeeze one more task before I leave to the meeting; one more phone call, one more errand, one more email, one more thing. Now, I do one less thing and make it early to the meeting which shows I value the meeting, have given it priority and have properly planned. The one less thing I did will get my attention after the meeting and is usually done better than the rush it would have been accomplished in trying to squeeze it in before the meeting.
The pace of the world we live in often requires us to do more than we can successfully accomplish. Do you find yourself taking on too much, trying to do one more thing? What if you and I gave those anxious, over performing activities to the Lord and did one less thing?
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
