Christmas Peace

Each year, Linus tells Charlie Brown the true meaning of Christmas and quotes Luke 2:14 from the King James version, "..On earth peace, goodwill toward men." These are the same words in the carol, "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" - "Peace on earth, goodwill toward men."
    Where is this peace on earth? Russia is invading the Ukraine, Hamas attacked Israel and a number of smaller conflicts that do not make the news are waged.
     Since the 1611 publication of King James Bible version, older manuscripts have been discovered. The New American Standard Bible reads: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people whom He is pleased." The New International Version reads, "Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those whom His favor rests."
       This agrees with Jesus' words recorded in John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me, you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
         If you are a Christian, you can have peace this Christmas, even if troubling events are happening around, you or to you. Take heart.
