Advertizing is aimed towards making you aware and feel that your life needs what they are selling. Marketers make you feel like you do not have friends in your life and it is because your teeth are not sparkling white. After the person in the commercial has brushed their teeth, beautiful friends flock to their side hugging and smiling.
The apostle Paul writes that he has learned to be content when his teeth were sparkling white and when they were yellow and scummy. Alright, he did not say it exactly that way.
Philippians 4:12
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Paul had known opulent and lavish times. During those times possessions did not posses him. He also was imprisoned for his faith in Jesus Christ. He knew hunger, loneliness and cold. It did not steal his joy. His contentment was not dependent upon having material possessions or even his basic needs met.
Are you content with what you have or do not have? Are you content with your job, your pay check? Paul had learned a powerful secret to being content.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.
3 Contentment Steps:
1. Paycheck Praise – be thankful for your work especially on payday, at bank or ATM
2. Pull o Meter – identify what marketing steals your contentment and pulls your attitude down, discover why this happens
3. Prayer – draw strength from the Lord not to be guilty during times of plenty, not to have possessions posses you and to be satisfied even if you lack the basic needs for living
