I read this story recently and noticed a couple things that I had not considered. Each march was done by soldiers in full fighting gear, with trumpeters and priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant. I wondered if Jericho shouted taunts to them during the week of marching. Did they shoot arrows, throw spears or catapult stones at them? It does not appear they did any of these things.
Archeologists have determined that there were two walls; an outer wall about 6’ thick and an inner wall about 12’ thick. Two men had already spied out the city and promised protection to Rahab, a woman who helped them escape unharmed. Rahab did not know of God’s plan and must have gotten her family in her house each of the seven days.
Day seven must have created a spine-tingling feeling that something unusual was up. After seven times around the city the priests blew their trumpets, the people shouted and the wall around the city collapsed.
Hebrews 11:30-31
By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days.
31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.
If you have given your allegiance to Jesus Christ, you are a follower of a wall crumbing God.
What walls are preventing you from entering the destiny God has for your life?
Has God given you instructions that seem pretty far-fetched?
Perhaps you are part of a structure that God is going to crumble.
God will rescue you and your family even though everything around you has collapsed.
